I know a lot of you are going to roll your eyes when I recommend that you visit your doctor before starting a workout regime. Aside from being excellent advice, it will also help you know when to push yourself and when to take a break. Call your family doctor and then start making a list of questions and concerns to be addressed.
Ask your doctor for a full workup including STIs (that’s sexually transmitted infections). Bring up any concerns you have – that toenail infection, your recent dizzy spell, medication that you’re on, family medical history, chest/knee/back pain, etc. You’ll also want to ask questions about how you should go about eating healthy and losing/gaining weight. Be specific and be open-minded. Cultivate a good relationship with your doctor because they’re a vital part of your team.
